Ideas for When the Winter Weather Keeps You Indoors
Unfortunately, with this time of year comes inclement weather. While we’ve been pretty lucky so far here in New Jersey, I’ve decided though to gather a couple of my favorite things to do on the days when the weather gets us stuck inside, just in case winter ever does decide to rear its ugly head!
1. Puzzle
Doing a puzzle really gets your mind working. Not only are they extremely relaxing, it’s also great to sit down and do a puzzle with people you love. You’ve got a big ole mug of hot cocoa, the whole table is cleared off, and there’s nothing but puzzle pieces from corner to corner. This is a great time to unwind and start opening up to one another. Start sharing stories and gossiping with one another, you’ll share a lot of good laughs and in the end, you’ve got a beautiful work of art that you can Modge Podge together, frame, and hang on the wall. Every time you look at it, you’ll reminisce on all the memories you had making it!
2. Hair Masque
You’re stuck inside, so now’s a good a time as any to finally apply that hair masque you’ve been meaning to try! You’ve got all day long, so be sure to crack open that jar and use it! Wetting your hair down first will allow the masque to penetrate deeper into your hair’s cuticle. Scoop some up in your hands, grab your hair like you’re about to put it in a ponytail and start by applying from midshaft to ends then work your way up into your roots. The longer you leave it on, the better!
Yum! I mean, who doesn’t love cookies? Forget New Year’s resolutions for a couple of hours and bake up some delicious homemade cookies! My all-time favorite is sugar cookies. The best part is you’ve got most of the ingredients already in your cabinet!
4. Nail Party
Grab your moms, sisters, daughters, and grandmothers and start painting away! Who cares about summer and winter color rules, grab those hot pink bottles and go crazy! I love mixing up my colors and my seasons. Nothing gets you in a better mood on a dreary rainy day than some beautiful red nail polish!
5. Reorganize Your Closet
Oddly enough, this is one of my favorite things to do. Call me a weirdo but I have my closet color coordinated. I read this book once about keeping a positive mindset – they recommend to open up your closet, grab an article of clothing and ask yourself “does this bring me joy?” If the answer is no, if you even hesitate, get rid of it! There are so many people in need of our clothes and they’ll be very grateful to receive them! I like doing this a couple of times a year, not just because I’m a clean freak, but also to give back to people, it makes me feel good.
After a couple of these tips, you’ll realize what fun a snow day can really be!
