5 Ways to Grow Long, Natural Hair
Every year, the same pattern happens time and time again. Just before the summertime, ladies (including myself) come to the salon dying to cut all their hair off. Then of course, come wintertime, we’re all regretting it and wishing our hair would just grow already! Although our hair grows at an average rate of ½ an inch per month, we all know it’s impossible to become Rapunzel overnight. Good news is, I’m here to tell you a couple of healthy tricks to grow long, natural hair!
1. Keep Hair Hydrated
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times! Hydration is the key to everything! Hydration starts from the inside and works its way out. That’s why doctors recommend 8 glasses of water a day. Not only will you notice a difference in your skin when you start keeping up with your water intake, you will also notice a difference with your hair! Using a conditioner whenever you wash is equally as important. Kerastase’s Nutritive line was rated number 1 by InStyle for hair moisture! I promise you’ll notice a difference in your hair after one shampoo.
2. Protein
Not the kind that’s in chicken! I’m talking about a good hair masque infused with protein! It’s so, so important to be applying a masque once a week in order to keep your hair super healthy. If you’ve been keeping up with my blogs though, you know not to leave any masque with protein on your hair for longer than 20 minutes! This is super important because an excess of protein can cause adverse effects on your hair!
3. Reduce Heat Use
This is a tip I think we can all benefit from! Unless you’re super talented at blowing out our own hair (or in our Blowout Club) then you’re probably rough drying your hair and then using a hot tool as well. This is one of the worst things we can do to our hair! Reduce as much heat use as possible! This is easier said than done, especially in the wintertime. In the summer, we can get away with letting our hair air dry from the beach and such, otherwise.
4. Handle Gently
Brush, brush, brush! Handle your hair as if it is the finest, softest silk you’ve ever touched! Brush your hair often and brush it well! Use scrunchies instead of elastic hair ties. Be gentle with your hair by tying it up in a looser bun rather than a super tight pony tail. This will decrease your amount of breakage and help your hair grow super long!
5. Seal in Moisture
Aside from drinking lots of water, you will also need to moisturize your hair on the outside! Along with doing masques once a week, try using some oil on your hair. Kerastase makes four Elixir oils that are customized for exactly what you need and they’re extremely beneficial. There is one for colored hair, aged hair, damaged hair, and coarse hair. Discuss with your stylist which oil will suit your needs best and apply this to your hair every single day!
